How-to Clear History of Visited Sites in IE, Chrome and Firefox

Internet Explorer, Chrome and Firefox stores a history of all the websites you have visited. Deleting this information is helpful in freeing up hard disk space on your computer and protecting your privacy, And this is how to do that.

Delete browsing history in Windows Internet Explorer.

Internet Explorer 6 & 7:

1. Open Internet Options by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Network and Internet >> Internet Options.
2. Click the General tab, and then, under Browsing history, click Delete.
3. Under History, click Delete history, and then click Yes to confirm that you want to delete the history.
4. Click Close, and then click OK.

Internet Explorer 8 & 9:

1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. Click the Safety button, and then click Delete Browsing History. In IE9 Click the Tools button, point to Safety, and then click Delete browsing history. If you don't want to delete the cookies and files associated with websites in your favorites list, select the Preserve Favorites website data check box.
3. Select the check box next to each category of information you want to delete.
4. Click Delete.

Delete browsing history in Google Chrome.

1. Click the Chrome menu on the browser toolbar.
2. Select Tools.
3. Select Clear browsing data.
4. In the dialog that appears, select the "Clear browsing history" checkbox.
5. Use the menu at the top to select the amount of data you want to delete. Select beginning of time to clear your entire browsing history.
6. Click Clear browsing data.

Delete browsing history in Mozilla Firefox.

1. At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button, go over to the History menu (on Windows XP, click on the Tools menu), and select Clear Recent History....
2. In the Clear Recent History window, set Time range.
3. Beside Details, click on the arrow button, then select Browsing & Download History.
4. Note: Be sure to de-select any other items that you do not want to be cleared.
5. To clear all items in the Location bar history, press Clear Now.
